It's a pretty simple concept

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Miley Cyrus has a new video out. Does it see her wielding a machine gun that fires dildos? Humping the Eiffel Tower? Ripping the crotches out of teddy bears? No (though those are ideas I might sell to her at some stage), but it does see her let glittery goo fall into her mouth, swirl it around and spew it back out. Pop music!

"Might need some more marijuana,” Miley says at the song’s opening, giving way to the hook: “Yeah I smoke pot, yeah I love peace, but i don’t give a f*ck, I ain’t no hippy.”

The video consists entirely of a close up of her face covered in glitter, which at one point gets a milk bath (draw what comparisons you will).

The song is taken from her surprise new album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, which she dropped to coincide with her VMAs hosting.

She is cribbing from bass-heavy R&B more and more lately, as is fellow pop star-gone-hip, Justin Bieber, who has been releasing bangers the last few weeks.

Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz can be streamed on the Miley’s website, and features collaborations with Big Sean, Ariel Pink and Sarah Barthel.
