From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Mastodon have released the music video for their new single 'The Motherload', and instead of featuring a mythical sea beast emerging from an ocean or some other metal trope they've chosen to satirise pop's fondness for slow motion ass-based videos.

The obviously tongue-in-cheek video is lost on many of their fans though, with the most upvoted YouTube comment currently being: "What's the deal with the twerking?" and the second most being: "Does anyone miss the days when nothing was over sexualised?"

Over on Mastodon's Twitter it's clear the band were merely poking fun at recent videos like Nicki Minaj's Anaconda and Iggy Azalea's Booty, writing: "Ye who take #TheMotherload music video too seriously- take a deep breath and embrace magnificence."

They later retweeted a fan who wrote: "I thought it was funny, and then that kaleidoscope ass just killed me."

'The Motherload' features on Mastodon's sixth album Once More 'Round the Sun which was released through Reprise Records on 24 June, 2014.
