Madonna has announced her new album Madame X in a video teaser that features brief clips of new music.

The pop icon has yet to announce a formal release date, but in the video's narration she describes the records titular character as “a secret agent travelling around the world, changing identities, fighting for freedom, and bringing light to dark places.

"Madame X is a dancer, a professor, a head of state, a housekeeper, an equestrian, a prisoner, a student, a mother, a child, a teacher, a nun, a singer, a saint, a whore, and a spy, in the house of love."

Madame X will mark Madonna’s first studio release since her 2015 LP Rebel Heart.

Last year, Universal announced a Madonna biopic called Blonde Ambition, which she did not support. At last year’s Met Gala, she delivered a surprise performance that included a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”.

She also appeared in Ariana Grande’s “God Is a Woman” video and had a featured spot on Quavo’s debut solo album Quavo Huncho.

She was recently announced to direct the biopic about Michaela DePrince, titled Taking Flight: From War Orphan to Star Ballerina. She will perform at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in May.
