From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The musician, real name Colson Baker, has been romantically involved with the Transformers star since last year.
Posting on Instagram to mark Valentine’s Day, Kelly shared a selection of photos and videos, including one photo which appears to show a drop of blood encased in a transparent locket.
Kelly captioned the post: “I wear your blood around my neck” alongside the “Kitchen Knife” and “Drop of blood” emojis.
Fox posted her own Valentine’s Day tribute on her Instagram page, with a slightly more traditional sentiment.
“There goes my heart manifest outside of my body draped in the towering silhouette of a most unusually handsome boy,” she wrote, alongside several photos of the couple. “Magical and haunted, kinetic and tortured, ethereal and dangerous, cosmic, lawless, eternal, creative genius.”
“The journey will likely be perilous but there is no destination without him.”
“Happy valentine’s day rehab barbie,” she added.
Both posts have since received over a million likes each on the popular social media platform.
