Louis Tomlinson says he was ‘pissed off’ by Euphoria scene showing sexual relationship with Harry Styles

Singer also spoke about his solo career, family and grief in an interview published after the release of his new single 'Kill My Mind'

Louis Tomlinson has responded to a controversial scene in an episode of HBO series Euphoria, where an animated sequence depicted him and former bandmate Harry Styles in a sexual relationship.

The former One Direction star was speaking with The Guardian when he was asked about rumours surrounding his and Styles's relationship, which is the subject of a conspiracy theory fuelled by fans.

The interview notes that Tomlinson seems “more bemused by [the rumours] than annoyed” but is wary of adding “fuel to the fire” by talking about it.

However, addressing the Euphoria scene, which showed Styles and Tomlinson as imagined by a fan-fiction writer, he said: “Again, I get the cultural intention behind that. But I think... No, I’m not going to lie, I was pissed off. It annoyed me that a big company would get behind it.”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Barbie Ferreira, who portrays Kat – the high-school girl who imagines the scene – said the fan-fiction scene meant “so much” to her because “it’s such a reality for so many people, and so many children and teens that are fans just have this escapist world”.

Tomlinson previously made it clear that he was unhappy with the scene. Shortly after the scene aired in July, he responded to a fan who wrote: “Just going to sit and hope that they [Tomlinson and Styles] for some reason approved it because surely they had to to get it aired. Harry seems quite friendly with the people involved but you can just TELL Louis’ not gonna like it.”

“I can categorically say that I was not contacted nor did I approve it,” Tomlinson tweeted back.

In the wide-ranging interview, Tomlinson also discussed his solo career and grief following the deaths of his mother in 2016 from leukaemia, and his 18-year-old sister Felicite earlier this year after an accidental overdose.

“That whole dark side I’ve gone through, it sounds stupid to say, but it gives me strength everywhere else in my life, because that’s the darkest s**t that I’m going to have to deal with,” he said. “So it makes everything else, not feel easier and less important, but in the grand scheme of things, you see things for what they are.”

Tomlinson recently released a new single, “Kill My Mind”, via Aristra Records. He is releasing his debut solo album in 2020.
