From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Antonoff and Melodrama singer performed a four-song set at Town Hall in New York City, including a cover of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Run Away With Me."
After receiving a ton of praise from the audience, Lorde said, “You’re all so nice. I wish every show this nice.”
But one fan shouted a comment loud enough for her to hear, but not understand, and the singer asked the person to repeat it.
“In Israel it’s nice,” he yelled, which was aimed at Lorde's difficult decision to cancel her concert in Israel.
She decided to protest the way Palestinians have been treated, which resulted in her being called a "bigot."
Lorde was obviously upset by the fan's comment and Antonoff got up to defend her saying, “Woah, hang on. We’re here raising a s***ton of money. F*** the negativity.”
Antonoff moved his arm around Lorde and added “You know who’s nice? [This person] right here."
Overwhelmingly, the audience agreed.
Antonoff and Lorde continued their witty banter and jabbed, “That motherf***** better donate $10,000!," to which Lorde added, “I’m sure the Israeli people are very nice and I can’t wait to meet them one day.”
At the performance, the duo was joined by artists Kacey Musgraves, The National, Spoon, Shamir and Andrew Dost and comedians Aparna Nancherla, Phoebe Robinson and Jacquieline Novak.
The Ally Coalition is a not-for-profit by the Bleachers frontman and his sister, designer Rachel Antonoff that works to "end discrimination against LGBTQ people by highlighting systemic inequality and LGBTQ-serving organisations and creating opportunities for fans and entertainers to advocate for equality."
This year, the organisation raised $193,000.
