From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

New York Times has stated the band will reunite onstage at the festival, for the first time since their farewell show at Madison Square Garden back in 2011. Coachella has a penchant for high-profile reunions; 2004 saw the Pixies reunited, 2007 had Rage against the Machine, and 2014 saw Outkast return to the stage.
Which is certainly a different tale to that the band's own label has been telling. Though numerous outlets joined in Consequence of Sound's first reports from "multiple sources" that the band were reuniting; their label manager, Kris Petersen, hit back hard against such claims with a series of tweets chastising those who had spread the rumours and calling the band "dead". He then told Vulture, "LCD Soundsystem is not reuniting at Coachella next year. I’m sure some festivals have offered the group a giant tempting pile of money, but there is no truth to this. Can we all just move on with our f*cking lives?"
So, is he wrong? If not, why are the New York Times so confidently reporting a planned Coachella reunion?
Christmas Eve saw the group drop a new, festive song on their website titled 'Christmas Will Break Your Heart'. Not that it guarantees or confirms any future reunion, as Murphy's post accompanying the track seems to underline that it was created during a short break between members' other projects, particularly the point in-between guitarist Al Doyle's tours with Hot Chip.
The band have yet to comment or confirm the news.
This follows the announcement that Slash and Axl Rose would grace the Coachella stage for Guns N' Roses' return, before heading off on a worldwide stadium reunion tour.
