From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Katy Perry’s new album Prism looks set to debut at number one this Sunday, according to mid-week figures released from the Official Charts Company.

Perry has outsold her nearest rival, James Blunt's Moon Landing, by more than 7,000 copies so far.

The singer looks to have benefited from an ‘X Factor bounce’ following her performance of single “Roar” on Sunday’s live results show, which was watched by 8.9 million people.

If Prism debuts at number one, it will be Perry’s second album to top the Official Albums Chart.

Last week’s number one, Tribute by John Newman, has fallen two places to number three in the mid-week chart, while Passenger’s All The Little Lights has climbed five places to number four.

The Voice winner Andrea Begley’s debut album The Message has entered the mid-week chart at number 10.

Meanwhile, X Factor winner James Arthur looks to go head-to-head with Lorde for the top spot on the Official Singles Chart on Sunday.

Lorde is currently leading the charts with her first single ‘ Royals’, with only 7,000 copies separating her track from Arthur’s .

Arthur’s first single, “Impossible”, went straight to number one following his X Factor win. The track became the fastest-selling single of 2012, selling 490,000 copies in its first week.
