Kanye West has claimed his eighth consecutive No.1 album with the release of his new record Ye, which has topped the Billboard 200.

The album, which was released on 1 June via G.O.O.D Music/Def Jam Recordings, sold 205,000 total copies in its first week thanks to 120,000 album equivalent streams. 85,000 copies were from traditional sales.

This ranks West alongside Eminem as the only two artists to debut at No.1 with eight albums in a row, according to Billboard.

West began his streak in 2005 with second album Late Registration, which was followed by Graduation, 808s & Heartbreak, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Watch the Throne with Jay-Z, Yeezus, The Life of Pablo, and now Ye.

The Independent gave Ye two stars, calling it "lazy" and noting an absence of West's usual perfectionism and work ethic.

Elsewhere on the charts this week, just one new release entered the top 10 behind West: metal band Ghost with their album Prequelle, which debuted at No.3. The band were helped to their total of 66,000 copies by a promotion which coupled concert tickets with copies of the album.

Meanwhile the Kanye West-produced album Kids See Ghosts by Kid Cudi is fighting fierce competition for the No.1 spot next week, against Dave Matthews Band's Come Tomorrow, Sugarland's Bigger and The Mountain by Dierks Bentley.
