Your support makes all the difference.It has been a long road to being released but Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo finally reached all non-TIDAL streaming services last week, in the process setting a new chart record.
As noted by Billboard, the album has topped the US charts, becoming the first number one album "where more than half of its units were generated by streaming equivalent albums.”
Just over 70 percent of Pablo’s overall units were streaming, while the other 30 percent were officially downloaded albums, coming from various sources including TIDAL, KanyeWest.com and those who preordered the record with their Madison Square Garden ticket.
West was eager to share the news with fans, Tweeting out “I also wanted to point out that it’s the first album to go number 1 off of streaming!” before the official chart was announced.
Initially, Pablo was only released on Jay-Z’s TIDAL in February, with West at the time saying it would never reach another streaming service.
It did not debut on the album chart as TIDAL refused to reveal numbers to Nielsen Music. However, it was later announced that Pablo was streamed over 250 million times in just 10 days.
