A technology company called MyChannel, Inc. is suing the rapper for violation of contract.
In the lawsuit obtained by TMZ and confirmed by Pitchfork, MyChannel claims that West pledged to invest $10m (£7.5m) in the company, only to exit the partnership and copy their video commerce technology.
MyChannel’s founders claim that after talks with West fell apart, they noticed their technology was being used to sell merchandise in West’s Sunday Service videos. The Sunday Service is a weekly performance held by the musician.
The lawsuit claims that MyChannel was never paid the $7m (£5.36m) owed for work they previously completed for West’s brand, Yeezy Apparel.
The company also allegedly relocated their headquarters from Pennsylvania to California and again to Illinois at West’s request.
The lawsuit claims the musician rebranded the technology company as “YZY Tech” during business meetings and presented “ideas such as those of [MyChannel] as his own”.
MyChannel believes that West’s promise of investment and partnership was part of a larger plan to copy the company’s confidential technology.
The company is seeking a jury trial in addition to the $20m in damages.
