The many interruptions of the vice presidential debate

Kanye West has posted a video of himself holding “Vote Kanye” hats over the heads of Kamala Harris and Mike Pence while watching the vice presidential debate.

The debate, which took place on Wednesday night (7 October), saw Harris and Pence clash over topics including Donald Trump's taxes, foreign policy and the president's response to coronavirus, which Harris called the biggest failure ever by a US administration.

West, who announced he would be running for the presidency in July, used the debate as a chance to plug his own campaign, posting the video and writing: “They had to get the merch first.”

The rapper will only appear on the presidential ballot in 11 states in the election, which takes place on 3 November, meaning that he effectively has no chance of winning the presidency.

In other states, however, it will still be possible to vote for him as a write-in candidate.

Many celebrities have reacted to the debate, with some focussing on the moment when a fly landed on Pence’s head and the VP did not appear to notice.

Last month, in a series of since-deleted posts, West claimed that he was the “second richest black man in America” and referred to himself as “the new Moses” while saying that he would not be releasing music until he was released from his contract with Sony and Universal.
