Rapper died after suffering 'medical emergency' in Chicago airport

Drake and Travis Scott are among the artists to pay tribute to rapper Juice Wrld after his death aged 21.

The Chicago-born rapper born Jarad Anthony Higgins reportedly suffered a seizure at the city’s Midway Airport and was pronounced dead a short time later in hospital.

Authorities confirmed he died following a “medical emergency” on Sunday 8 December.

Drake wrote on his Instagram: “I would like to see all the younger talent live longer and I hate waking up hearing another story filled with blessings was cut short.”

“He knows our hearts,” wrote Chance the Rapper. “I really wish we had more talks like that one night in LA. Dude. This is ridiculous. Millions of people, not just in Chicago but around the world are hurting because of this and don’t know what to make of it. I’m sorry. Love you and God bless your soul.”

Travis Scott, with whom Juice Wrld collaborated on Scott’s album Astroworld, shared a photo of them together in the studio with Future and wrote: “You will live on forever.”

Among the other artists to pay tribute are Meek Mill, Lil Uzi Vert, Ms Banks, Juicy J, Murda Beatz and Denzel Curry.

“Really shocked and sad to find out Juice Wrld passed away… and so young too…” Zedd wrote on Twitter. “A reminder that life can be over at any moment… be kind to one another.”

DJ Snake wrote: “RIP JUICE WRLD.”

Singer Yung Baby Tate shared her condolences, writing: “Juice Wrld… way too young, way too bright. This is so sad. Prayers to his family and loved ones.”

Lil Nas also took to Twitter to honour the late rapper. “RIP Juice,” he wrote. ”So sad how often this is happening lately to young talented rising artists.”

Fellow rapper Rich the Kid tweeted: “Nooo way not Juice Wrld somebody say this is not real.”

Ellie Goulding also shared her condolences, calling the rapper a “sweet soul” and sharing a picture of the two together.

Among those expressing their grief over Juice Wrld’s death were professional video gamers, who knew of the rapper’s love of video games.

Joedat “Voyboy” Esfahani, a professional League of Legends esports player, wrote: “Life is just cruel man... Juice Wrld was such an incredible, poetic and beautiful soul. He was only 21 but captured my and so many hearts around the world with his music. Too young, too soon, too tragic. Rest in peace to the legend.”

A gamer who goes by Ninja wrote: “Waking up to Juice Wrld passing from a seizure... I loved his music and he was my most listened to artist in 2019. I’m heartbroken, my love goes out to his family and loved ones. Too soon man.”

Fans have pointed out that Higgins’ “predicted” his untimely death in the track “Legends”, where he rapped that he “ain’t making it past 21”.

“What’s the 27 Club?/ We ain’t making it past 21,” he rapped. “They tell me I’m-a be a legend/ I don’t want that title now/ ‘Cause all the legends seem to die out/ What the f*** is all this about?”
