From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.John Legend has embarked on a fiery condemnation of Donald Trump, referring to the US President as “a flaming racist” and “an evil f***ing canker sore on America’s whole landscape” following his racist Twitter rant about Baltimore.
Speaking to paparazzi photographers from the gossip site TMZ, Legend declared Trump “a flaming racist [and] a piece of s***”, adding: “He says ‘piece of s***’ all the time. That’s what he does. We need to get him out of office.”
Asked what Legend would do about Baltimore, which was the subject of a racist rant by Trump last week, he replied: “There’s a lot that can be done, over a century of history that created the problems that they have, and we need to focus on making all of our communities better instead of talking s*** about the communities just because you’re a racist prick.”
He added: “Donald Trump is an evil f***ing canker sore on America’s whole landscape, so we need to get him out of office.”
Trump last weekend took to Twitter to attack the black congressman Elijah Cummings, who represents the district of Baltimore, declaring that the city is a ““disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” where “no human would want to live”. He later denied claims that the tweets were racist, and went on to call Cummings himself a “racist”.
