Jesy Nelson has sparked speculation that she is working on solo music following her exit from Little Mix.

Nelson announced her split from the band in December last year, citing the toll she says being in the group has taken on her mental health.

The news of her departure followed shortly after the singer had taken a break from Little Mix, as well as stepped back from public engagements and appearances.

On Tuesday (17 February), the musician shared an Instagram story of herself in the studio accompanied by monkey emojis, which are commonly used when someone is hiding a secret or as “cheeky laughter”.

Many fans have taken the post to mean Nelson’s first solo music could be on the way.

The rumours were fueled a few hours later when the 29-year-old shared an Instagram post captioned: “Let’s go,” next to a string of musical note emojis.

Fans took to Twitter to share their excitement at the possibility of new music from the artist. “Miss Jesy Nelson sharing a story on IG where she in the studio aaaaaah we getting a solo record?!” wrote one user.

Alongside a GIF from RuPaul’s Drag Race, a user wrote: “jesy nelson leaving little mix and heading straight to the studio.”

Another added: “No but jesy is really in a studio!! Oh my goodness SHE’S COMING!!” while someone else wrote: “Is jesy nelson releasing solo music?! Omfg.”

Fan account “Little Mix Updates” also speculated that Nelson could be teaming up with production duo Loose Change – who had previously worked with Little Mix on their 2018 album LM5 – after it was seen that Nelson recently followed them both on Instagram.

In January, the group paid tribute to Nelson when they landed their fifth number one single with “Sweet Melody”.

Speaking about the track, band member Jade Thirlwall said: “This is so special for us because it’s the last single we did as a four with Jesy.”
