From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Jedward fans have been caught off guard after receiving surprise messages from the Irish singing duo on Twitter.
The twins, who rose to fame on The X Factor in 2009, have been sending their followers personalised direct messages on social media, for no apparent reason.
“You JEPIC legend rock the week,” the pair wrote to political commentator Owen Jones.
“Cool style Edie loads of good vibes to u,” they said to another.
Reactions from fans have been a mixture of bafflement and delight, with one follower writing: “The slow end of the world has been largely grand for me so far but not getting a DM from Jedward is really screwing with my head.”
“Jedward have slid into my DMs and I’m living for it,” said another fan. “Most encouragement I’ve had for months.”
Those who haven’t been lucky enough to get a DM from the singers are not happy.
“Feel like pure s*** just want jedward to dm me,” wrote one person.
Jedward are currently in lockdown in Los Angeles with American Pie star Tara Reid, who they met on Big Brother in 2017.
While in the US, they have been joining Black Lives Matter protests.
