From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The brand new video for 4:44 track “Moonlight,” which was exclusively unveiled on Tidal, also references the Best Picture error which rocked this year's Academy Awards when La La Land was incorrectly named as the evening's biggest winner in place of the song's namesake, Barry Jenkins drama Moonlight.
Jay Z's Friends re-imagining was directed by Alan Yang - co-creator and star of Netflix series Master of None - and features Jerrod Carmichael, Get Out star Lil Rel Howery and Issa Rae (US series Insecure) in the roles of Ross, Joey and Rachel.
Making up the rest of the collection is Emmy-nominated Atlanta star Lakeith Stanfield as Chandler, Tessa Thompson (Westworld, Thor Ragnarok) as Monica and Tiffany Haddish - who can currently be seen in new film Girls Trip - playing Phoebe.
The track, which samples dialogue from 2016 film Moonlight, features the lyrics: “We got stuck in La La Land" while also referencing Jordan Peele's horror satire Get Out which has become the most profitable film of 2017.
"Moonlight" was dropped at - wait for it - 4:44pm EST on Friday (4 August) and can currently only be seen on Tidal.
Yang, who posted a snippet online, claims it will be released “everywhere in a week" so watch this space.
