From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. In the short video released by TMZ, Leto is seen sitting in the studio, hair coloured pink, listening to Swift’s latest album 1984.
First of all, the Joker actor compliments the verse on “Blank Space” - confusing the line “long list of ex-lovers” with “Starbucks lovers” and saying he wants to steal the Charli XCX-like beat - adding that her song "Style" an “interesting little pop song”.
At the end of the clip, however, he controversially says, in a rushed segment which quickly cuts out: “F*ck her. I don’t give a f*ck about her. It’s what works best for us.” Watch below.
Of course, most people would probably think he’s just implying that his band shouldn’t worry what Taylor Swift has done and instead focus on their own music, yet headlines have been screaming “Jared Leto says Screw Taylor Swift”.
It should also be noted just how edited the video is, presumably taking out much of what was said about Swift’s music as overall it seems predominantly complimentary.
However, Leto has since had to apologise for the comments in the only real way any celebrity can ever really apologise for anything in the 21st Century: via Twitter.
He wrote: “The truth is I think @taylorswift13 is amazing + an incredible example of what's possible. If I hurt her or her fans my sincerest apologies.”
The two have been spotted on numerous occasions with each other at award shows and the like, so presumably there is no Bad Blood between the two. (I'll walk myself out...)
