From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Despite having earned numerous number one singles, sold-out music venues across the globe and risen through the ranks to become one of her generation's most renowned music artists, Taylor Swift's domination of te music industry is only just about to peak: she is to receive a trophy that is named after herself.

The artist is to be handed 'The Taylor Swift Award' at the 64th annual BMI Pop Awards, Billboard reports.

This feat will see the "Shake It Off" singer become the second artist to have ever earned a self-titled award at the ceremony next to Michael Jackson who received one back in 1990.

There is a conversation to be had on whether this honour will be awarding Swift for anything other than her global success. Ultimately, it will probably end up elongating an already lengthy awards ceremony.

Still, we're excited to see if Swift finds a gracious way of winning such an indulgent award.

With the BMI Pop Awards will taking place on 10 May in California, we're sure rapper Kanye West is already hard at work figuring out how he can storm the stage legitimately claiming Taylor Swift isn't a deserving recipient of The Taylor Swift Award.

Glastonbury headliner Adele recently dethroned Swift in becoming the world's biggest-selling artist.
