From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Vitalii Sediuk, a 24-year-old journalist from Ukraine known for playing pranks on celebrities, made it onto the stage at the awards in LA on Sunday night and almost managed to accept an award on Adele’s behalf.
After gatecrashing the ceremony by going along with a friend who had tickets, he found a seat in the second row alongside the likes of Justin Timberlake and Beyoncé.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Sediuk who says his “purpose” is “to entertain and to show a different emotion of celebrities,” claimed that the stunt was simple a spur-of-the-moment thing.
"The idea to go on the stage came up at the last second,” he said. “To be honest, Adele is my favorite singer. So when I heard her name, I came up with this idea to go up on the stage and say what I said. … I pretended this was an award for me, and then I said, 'Thank you, Adele. You’re my inspiration.'”
Sediuk, who once received a slap for kissing Will Smith on a red carpet and presented Madonna with a hydrangea (a flower she hates) at a press conference, then had to deal with the presenter Jennifer Lopez.
"I don't remember her [facial] expression, but I remember someone pulled me. When I saw the video, I realized it was Jennifer Lopez," he added.
He was then taken backstage by security, arrested by police and charged with trespassing, he will appear in court in March.
