From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 61st Grammy Awards nominations have been pushed back from Wednesday, 5 November to Friday, 7 December, due to the scheduled memorial services for former US president George HW Bush.

Bush died aged 91 after suffering a number of health issues, including Parkinson's disease. He served as America's 41st president from 1988 until 1992, and served before then as vice president during Ronald Reagan's administration.

He was married to his wife, Barbara, from 1945 until her death a few months ago. He had five children with her. During the services on 5 November, he will be eulogised in a service at the National Cathedral in Washington, before his body is brought back to his home state of Texas to be buried.

The Grammy nominations will be announced live on “CBS This Morning” and Apple Music at 8:30am ET (1.30pm in the UK), with the full list of nominees to go up on Grammy.com shortly after.

Earlier this year, the Recording Academy announced several changes to the awards process, most notably to the "General Field" categories – record of the year, album of the year, song of the year and best new artist – where the number of nominations will increase from five to eight.

"This change will better reflect the large number of entries in these categories and allow voters greater flexibility when selecting this year's best recordings," an announcement sent to Academy members said.

The 61st Grammy Awards will take place February 10, 2019.
