Gary Numan has cancelled a show in the US after his tour bus hit and killed a 91-year-old man.

Cleveland Police told local media that the man was pushing a cart through a pedestrian crossing close to the city's House of Blues venue, where the singer was scheduled to perform.

The tour bus turned right and hit the man, who died at the scene.

“We are all utterly devastated by the fatal accident involving our tour bus earlier today”, Numan said in a statement from his official Twitter account.

“Everyone of us is filled with a sadness that made it impossible to even consider playing our show this evening, and out of respect it would have been entirely wrong."

The 45-year-old driver of the tour bus was not arrested following the accident but police continue to investigate. The 91-year-old man has not been named by police.

“All tickets will be honoured at the point of purchase," Numan told fans who were supposed to attend the cancelled show.

“At the moment all we can think about are the people affected by this terrible tragedy and to them we send all our love.”
