Foals have released new music for the first time in almost four years.

The band unveiled “Exits”, the first excerpt from their upcoming album Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1, on Monday on BBC Radio One’s Future Sounds with Annie Mac. They have also released the accompanying music video.

Yannis Philippakis, Jack Bevan, Jimmy Smith and Edwin Congreave are now performing as a foursome after the departure of their bassist Walter Gervers.

Gervers was with the band for 12 years before it was announced in January 2018 he had decided to pursue “a new life”.

The band described “Exits” as “the first taste of lots of good things to come” and “the centerpiece of album one” on Mac’s show.

Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1 is set to be released on 8 March.

Another album, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 2, will follow in autumn.

Foals’s previous album, What Went Down, came out in August 2015.

Philippakis told NME in July 2017 that the political landscape was likely to inspire the lyrics of the group’s next tunes.

“I think the world is obviously affecting the way we feel as individuals,” he said.

“I definitely feel that when I’m writing lyrics or music, that it’s in dialogue with what’s going on around me in isolation – so I’m sure there will be things in the lyrics to do with, not just the political climate but also the environmental situation that’s happening now.”
