From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Elton John performed a duet with Taron Egerton - the actor who plays him in forthcoming biopic Rocketman - at the musician's annual Oscars party.

The pair treated the crowd to an impromptu rendition of 1972 hit “Tiny Dancer” with John on the piano and Egerton on vocals. It came during an auction to benefit the musician's AIDS Foundation

Rocketman is directed by Dexter Fletcher, who replaced Bryan Singer when he was fired from Bohemian Rhapsody. It also stars Jamie Bell as John's longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden as manager John Reid and Bryce Dallas Howard as his mother.

John hosts an Academy Awards party every year, as does Madonna. This year's ceremony saw Green Book take home Best Picture with The Favourite star Olivia Colman taking home Best Actress.

Bohemian Rhapsody's Rami Malek won Best Actor for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury, while Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk) and Mahershala Ali (Green Book) took home Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor, respectively. You can find a full list of winners here.

Rocketman will be released in UK cinemas on 24 May.
