From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

If a long-haired, bearded stranger came up to you in the street and offered you the chance to see Ed Sheeran for 30 seconds for $2 AUD (£0.96) in a peep show, would you say yes?

Probably not, as the chances of the multi-grammy nominee sitting in a dark room below street level are very, very slim. However, it turns out the ginger-haired troubadour may have actually been behind that curtain if you were in Australia on Friday.

Australian comedy duo Hamish & Andy, who host a weekly radio show, set up the ‘experiment’, offering people the chance to see Ed Sheeran for $2.

The catch? They were attempting to sell the experience as a 30-second peep show. Watch below.

While no one actually went into the room for over two hours, eventually they came flooding in, all getting their phones out to film the already documented moment.

After overcoming the boredom of sitting on a stall all that time, Sheeran looked genuinely excited to finally play to some people.

In other Sheeran news, the artist is going head-to-head with Ellie Goulding for a BBC Music award.

Oh, and he’s up for a few grammys or something.
