From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

According to NME, The "New Rules" singer had described them as "upsetting" and "dangerous" after journalist Richard Wilkins said her US TV appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live proved she was lying.
Dua Lipa previously had to cancel her tour dates with Bruno Mars to undergo emergency dental surgery.
She responded saying, "If you were a good journalist you would’ve done proper research instead of talking out of your ass. Jimmy Kimmel was shot in Feb in LA and aired yesterday."
"I’ve been in Australia on bed rest and wouldn’t have cancelled my Bruno shows if I didn’t have to," she added.
After Dua Lipa spoke out, Wilkins apologised for his comments saying they were "misinformed," but the singer claims that they were in fact "dangerous."
While on KIIS FM's Kyle and Jackie O Show, host Kyle Sandilands commended Dua Lipa for her response.
"So you missed a couple of shows in Brisbane but you’re back on stage over the weekend and everything’s good,” said Sandilands. “And then d***head, sorry I mean Richard Wilkins, made that big faux pas on the Today show. You handled that perfectly I think."
“Yeah I was pretty upset," Dua Lipa replied. "I couldn’t perform, I couldn’t open my mouth. I could barely eat."

She continued saying that she "was really upset because my fans were really upset and that's the kind of thing I think is so dangerous."
Dua Lipa concluded by saying she doesn't want to let people down unless it's necessary.
"It was a health thing that I had to take care of and it came at the worst possible time," she said.
