From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The “Hotline Bling” musician took to social media on Thursday night to announce the release of Dark Lane Demo Tapes, a 14-song compilation of TikTok hits, such as the viral “Toosie Slide”, old SoundCloud demos and previously leaked tracks.
The record sees Drake collaborate with artists such as Future, Playboy Carti and Chris Brown.
Sharing the news on Instagram, the 33-year-old wrote: “My brothers @oliverelkhatib @ovonoel put together alot of the songs people have been asking for (some leaks and some joints from SoundCloud and some new vibes) DARK LANE DEMO TAPES out everywhere at midnight.”
He added: “Also my 6th STUDIO ALBUM DROPPING SUMMER 2020!!! Lucky number 6.”
Drake previously dropped hints about his new album while appearing on an Instagram Live with Diddy in April, saying that he hoped coronavirus lockdown would allow him to create something special.
“I’m working on the album. I’ve been working on it for a while now,” he said. “The last time I had to sit down was when I tore my ACL and I made a great album out of that. Obviously, God has us all inside the house right now sitting down, so the amount of focus I’m able to put into this album is probably way different than it would’ve been.”
The Toronto-born rapper’s last studio album, Scorpion, was released in 2018 and featured singles “God’s Plan”, “Nice For What” and “In My Feelings”.
