Donald Glover - AKA Childish Gambino - returns with new album Awaken, My Love! and it's completely different

The rapper/actor released first single 'Me and Your Mama'

Despite 2016 being a hellish year for many citizens of the world, Donald Glover’s career has only gone from strength to strength.

First, his return to the small screen with the TV series Atlanta - which he created, wrote, produced and stars in - has been critically applauded across the spectrum.

Then, Glover was announced to be playing a young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars spin-off centring on Hand Solo.

Now, to round off his spectacular year, the actor has announced his third record under the pseudonym Childish Gambino, the first single for which has been released online.

Titled Awaken, My Love!, the record marks Glover's first LP since 2013’s polarising Grammy-nominated Because the Internet, while single “Me and Your Mama” is his first new music since the dual EP/Mixtape release of Kauai/ STN MTN.

“Me and Your Mama” starts as a relatively straight forward beat before dropping into a Pink Floyd-inspired prog-rock anthem with strained vocals from Glover.
