From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

After Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme’s first CBeebies bedtime story aired to the joy of many on Friday (6 October), the next celebrity to take over the throne has been confirmed - country music icon Dolly Parton.

Parton will be reading Louise Yates' Dog Loves Books on 25 October.

In a statement released alongside the announcement, the singer said: “Encouraging children to develop a love of books from an early age is very important to me.

“I hope my songs and stories inspire the CBeebies audience in the UK. Thank you for having me!”

The upcoming bedtime story slot coincides with the release of the musician's first children's album, ‘I Believe In You’, the profits of which are set to go to her charity Imagination Library, a free book-giving programme.

Dolly’s CBeebies appearance follows the likes of actor Tom Hardy, Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain and Olympic athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill as well as Captain America star Chris Evans.
