Dolly Parton and BTS: Country icon teases possible collaboration with K-pop group
Parton just duetted with Miley Cyrus on her classic "Jolene"
Dolly Parton is contemplating a possible collaboration with BTS – in a duet that would see the worlds of country and K-pop collide.
The singer teased the idea on Twitter following her celebrated performance with Miley Cyrus during the Grammys on Sunday.
She and Cyrus sang “Jolene”, Parton’s 1973 hit, together. The members of BTS, who were in the audience, were seen singing, clapping and moving along to the tune.
Many viewers promptly picked up on their reaction, and it turns out they weren’t the only ones – Parton, too, noticed.
She shared a clip of her and Cyrus’s performance – which opens with a shot of BTS – on Twitter, writing: “Maybe my next #Jolene collab will be with @BTS_twt? What do y’all think?”
Social media users reacted to the suggestion with enthusiasm, as is to be expected given that both BTS and Parton have thousands of fans.
If Parton’s collaboration with the K-pop group materialises, it won’t be the first time she reinvents the country classic.
In 2016, Parton delivered a new version of “Jolene” with the a cappella group Pentatonix, which became a viral hit.
The singer was honoured during the Grammys for her musical achievements and philanthropic work as MusiCares Person of the Year.
She is the first country personality to have receievd the distinction.
