Demi Lovato has released a new single which aims strong criticism at US President Donald Trump.

With less than a month to go until the presidential election on 3 November, Lovato also urged people to “join me and vote”.

The track, entitled “Commander in Chief”, includes lyrics such as: “Commander in chief, honestly / if I did the things you do, I couldn’t sleep."

The song was co-written with Billie Eilish’s brother and frequent collaborator Finneas O’Connell.

“If you mess with things selfishly they’re bound to come undone,” Lovato sings elsewhere in the song. “We’re in a state of crisis… while you line your pockets deep.”

“Won't give up, stand our ground / We'll be in the streets while you're bunkering down,” go the lyrics in another verse.

The singer-songwriter revealed that the track would be accompanied by a music video, set to be released tomorrow (15 October).

Lovato also posted a link to I Will Vote, a website that assists people in the voting process.

“I’m calling on all of you,” she wrote. “Please join me in voting for this year’s election.”
