Debut single to break New Year record
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Harris, the daughter of Iron Maiden founder member Steve Harris, is set to "rock around the clock" with the release of her song Your Turn.
The single was being released digitally in places including Auckland, New Caledonia, Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Jakarta, Dhaka, Karachi, Baku, Moscow, Paris, London, Santiago, Indiana, Mexico City, Arizona, California, Alaska, Hawaii and Samoa.
Organisers believe it is the first time such a venture has been organised on this scale and a first for worldwide distributor The Orchard which was co-ordinating all the digital downloads.
Joe Arditti, chief marketing consultant, said of the release: "What better way to bring in 2009, than with a new star born at midnight!"
Harris, who is being billed as Britain's answer to Pink, has been confirmed to support Iron Maiden on their 2009 world tour.
Harris's new album is entitled Calm before the Storm.
