Death Grips announce split: 'We've officially stopped' band writes on Facebook

After a short, volatile, but brilliant career, Death Grips have confirmed that they have split up, saying that their upcoming double album 'The Powers That B' will be their last and claiming they were never really a band anyway.

Here's the statement as per their Facebook (sic):

"we are now at our best and so Death Grips is over. we have officially stopped. all currently scheduled live dates are canceled. our upcoming double album "the powers that b" will still be delivered worldwide later this year via Harvest/Third Worlds Records. Death Grips was and always has been a conceptual art exhibition anchored by sound and vision. above and beyond a "band". to our truest fans, please stay legend."

Death Grips were a much needed punch to the groin of the music industry, and their breaking up doesn't come as a huge surprise given their track record.

The group screwed over their record label on numerous occasions, leaking their own albums and infamously not turning up to a show in Chicago last August, their music instead being played on loop with a screen-grab of a Gmail message containing a suicide note addressed to the band being projected on the backdrop.

Fans smashed up the drum kit at the show, with Death Grips later claiming the whole thing was a piece of performance art.

The Powers That B will be their last album, following 'Niggas On The Moon', last year's 'Government Plates', 2011's 'The Money Store' and 'No Love, Deep Web'.
