There's a catch, naturally

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

With headliners LCD Soundsystem, Guns N' Roses and Calvin Harris primed to perform at Coachella this weekend, you'd be forgiven for lamenting the fact you don't have tickets.

The festival is offering a small reprieve, however: in its 17th year, organisers are offering music fans outside of Coachella's Indio, California location the opportunity to experience the weekend in virtual reality.

Using the dedicated app, Mashable reports that those equipped with a VR headset can go on tours of the festival's site thanks to a team up with Vantage.tv.

Other delights to be experienced in virtual reality include exclusive interviews with this year's performing acts which include The Kills, The Last Shadow Puppets and Ellie Goulding.

Festivalgoers can do the same. Each attendee would have received their personal cardboard VR headset meaning that those wanting to hang back in the tent can do so (we're hoping this applies to nobody).

This isn't the first time a music festival has embraced the emerging advancements in technology; last year, Lollapalooza Berlin hosted a team-up of Sony Music Entertainment and Wowza for a 360-degree virtual reality live stream.

Coachella kicks off today and runs until Sunday 17 April.
