From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Cher has claimed that Donald Trump would rather “burn down the White House” than concede the US presidency to Joe Biden.

The performer and actor has been a vocal critic of Trump, and in October released a song written in support of Biden, who is the president-elect.

“If Trump can’t be in the White House, he’s going to burn it down,” Cher told The Guardian. “He’s trying to block Joe at every moment. He’s the most vindictive person I’ve ever witnessed. I think he’s fighting so hard because he’s going to be prosecuted when he gets out of the White House.”

She added that she hopes to see Trump end up in jail, and that she’d “dance around” at such an outcome.

Cher also claimed that she has never in her life hated anyone as much as she hates Trump.

“I pretty much disliked Bush when he started those wars, and I could say for a minute it was touch and go for hate,” she said. “But the one thing I know is he loves America and Trump doesn’t.”

In November, Cher visited Pakistan to help “the world’s loneliest elephant” move into a new sanctuary.

Cher has long used Twitter to advocate for the release of Kaavan the elephant, who resided in a Pakistani zoo for 35 years.

Animal rights activists regularly called for Kaavan to move elsewhere, following reports that he had been diagnosed as both overweight and malnourished over the decades.
