Cardi B has been condemned for using a racist slur to describe her sister’s eyes, while arguing that she “didn’t use it as an insult”.

The New York rapper sparked controversy after posting a composite photograph of her two-year-old daughter Kulture that imagined what she would look like as an adult, using images of Cardi herself and her husband, rapper Offset.

After a fan noted the composite photograph’s resemblance to Cardi’s sister Hennessy Carolina, Cardi replied: “I think cause Hennessy got ch**ky eyes like Offset and so KK [Kulture Kiari]. It’s the only think I could think off [sic]”.

“I– Cardi wtf”, wrote one tweet responding to the message. Cardi, meanwhile, pleaded ignorance.

“I didn’t know that ch**ky eyes was a slur like wtfff,” Cardi wrote on Twitter.

“I DONT KNOW F***IN EVERYTHING!! We don’t even use that as a insult and I didn’t use it as a insult. I’m sick of the internet [sic].”

Both Cardi’s tweet, and the original composite image posted to her Instagram, have since been deleted.

One fan wrote that she hoped Cardi would learn from the experience.

“It’s definitely a racial slur, but I think Cardi just didn’t know,” the fan tweeted. “Apparently a lot of people don’t. I’ve been told I have c****y eyes and have been called a c***k – it’s very hurtful. Hopefully she doesn’t use the word again.”

In June, Cardi was on the receiving end of an apology after singer/songwriter Sia confused her for Nicki Minaj on social media. “I totally misunderstood a tweet earlier that has resulted in me making a buffoon out of myself,” Sia wrote.
