From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

BTS will perform at the MTV Music Awards for the first time ever.

The K-pop band will be featured during the ceremony on 30 August, MTV announced on Tuesday.

Doja Cat will also perform during the event for the first time, while J Balvin will give his second MTV VMAs performance. More performers are expected to be announced at a later date.

BTS have won two MTV Video Music Awards in the past, in the Best Group and Best K-Pop categories. Both wins came in 2019.

This year, the band is up for Best Pop, Best K-pop, and Best Choreography. BTS will perform their upcoming single “Dynamite” during the ceremony.

Doja Cat, meanwhile, is nominated in the PUSH Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Direction categories.

J Balvin is in the running for Best Collaboration, and appears in three different slots for Best Latin.

The MTV VMAs will take place on 30 August from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

An announcement by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stated in June that the event will have “limited or no audience” and will follow safety guidelines related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Performances are planned in all five of the city’s boroughs ”to honour the spirit and resilience of New York”, MTV previously announced.
