Britney Spears performs in Las Vegas for last time ending four year residency

Britney Spears has announced a new Las Vegas residency at Park MGM's Park Theatre.

The pop star announced the news via a very over-the-top livestream from Las Vegas via Ellen DeGeneres's YouTube channel, after teasing the announcement via social media and on the Ellen show last week.

The livestream featured shots from the Las Vegas strip, club music and dancing fans who waited for Spears to arrive.

It was something of an anti-climax as, after the entire facade of the hotel was turned into a screen featuring graphics inspired by some of Spears's most memorable moments, she rose out of a stage... only to walk across a red carpet without speaking and get into a waiting SUV.

"I am so happy to be returning to my second home – Las Vegas!" Spears said in a statement. "I'm so excited for my fans to see it! It's going to be so much fun being back on stage and I can't wait to perform at Park Theatre."

Her previous Piece of Me residency took place at Planet Hollywood. It launched in 2013 as a 50 date, two-year run, but was extended due to intense demand and Spears performed nearly 250 shows. The Piece of Me residency concluded in December 2017 and, according to Billboard, grossed more than $137m over four years.

Titled Britney: Domination, the residency will launch in February 2019 and run through August. Tickets for the shows go on sale on 26 October.
