Britney Spears is reportedly working on a documentary about her own life with a female filmmaker.

Page Six reported the news on Tuesday, in the wake of the release of The New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears.

The programme has sparked discussions about the treatment of Spears by the public and the media, as well as conversations about fame, mental health, and conservatorship.

According to Page Six, Spears is "quietly working on her own documentary about her life — said in her own words — with a top female filmmaker".

The Independent has contacted Spears's representative for more information.

Spears recently appeared to address the Framing documentary on social media.

In an Instagram post, she shared a video of herself performing "Toxic" during a past show.

"I’ll always love being on stage .... but I am taking the time to learn and be a normal person," she wrote. "I love simply enjoying the basics of every day life!!!!

Spears added: "Each person has their story and their take on other people’s stories!!!! We all have so many different bright beautiful lives!!! Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person's life it is nothing compared to the actual person living behind the lens !!!!"
