Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The 2019 Billboard Music Awards took place at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Wednesday 1 May.

The ceremony was hosted by Kelly Clarkson and featured a number of star performances from Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie, Halsey with BTS, and the Jonas Brothers.

Cardi B and Drake dominated the awards themselves, with the "Nice for What" artist making BBMAs history by becoming the most awarded artist of all time, taking home 12 prizes to bring his total up to 27.

Drake was presented with the Top Billboard 200 Album for Scorpion, released last year, when he also gave a surprise shout-out to Maisie Williams' character Arya Stark from Game of Thrones.

After thanking friends and family, the artist added: “And hey, shout out to Arya Stark for putting in that work last week."

As those who have watched the most recent Game of Thrones episode know, Arya was key to defeating the Night King.

The episode, titled “The Long Night”, was “gritty, epic and profoundly silly”, according to our critic, who awarded the episode five stars. Meanwhile, the intense trailer for next week’s episode sees everyone turn their attentions to the Iron Throne and the fate of Cersei Lannister.
