From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sure, Queen B's father may have spoiled the surprise somewhat with his unintentional first revelation that she's given birth to the twins, but the world still awaits her first words on the subject with baited breath. You just know there's going to be a photoshoot. And it will be like gazing upon heaven.

However, Beyoncé has finally broken her silence, but not to address the birth. Instead, she sent a statement to this year's BET Awards to be read for her Viewers' Choice Award for the Lemonade track 'Sorry', accepted on her behalf by Chloe x Halle.

"Thank you, BET, for this award and your tremendous support of Lemonade," Beyoncé said in the statement. "This has been a journey of love, of celebrating our culture, honouring the past, and approaching the present and future with hope and resolve."

"Thank you to my mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, for being my biggest, biggest teacher and consistent influence. Thank you to my entire family for so much love. To my team at Parkwood, thank you."

"And thanks to all the fans, my Beyhive, for riding with me. I love and appreciate you. And to everyone at the show tonight, you all look so beautiful. And at home, thank you, and have a wonderful, wonderful night. From, Beyoncé."

People broke the news, TMZ has reported on the genders — according to the publication, Blue Ivy now has a brother and a sister — while also claiming the birth happened two weeks ago.

Beyoncé won five of the seven awards she was nominated for at the BETs, including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Album of the Year.
