BET Awards 2020: When is the ceremony taking place, who is performing, and how can I watch?

The 2020 BET Awards are almost upon us.

This year, the ceremony – which marks the awards show’s 20th anniversary – will be held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The show will rely on “an array of innovative techniques and artist-generated content”, “allowing the audience to join in a celebration of black love, joy, pride, and power with an all-star lineup taking to TV’s biggest stage,” a release said.

When are the 2020 BET Awards and how can I watch?

The ceremony will air on Sunday 28 June.

Viewers in the US will be able to watch it on BET and CBS, where the awards show will be broadcast for the first time, from 8pm to 11pm ET/PT.

There will also be a pre-show from 7pm ET/PT on BET.

In the UK, the ceremony will be broadcast on Monday 29 June at 9pm on BET (Sky 195, Virgin 184, Freesat 140).

Who is hosting?

Amanda Seales, who portrays Tiffany DuBois in Insecure, will take on hosting duties this year.

Who will perform?

Alicia Keys, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Chloe x Halle, DaBaby, Lil Wayne, Megan Thee Stallion, and Usher have all been announced.

Black Thought, D Smoke, Jay Rock, Jonathan McReynolds, Kane Brown, Karen Clark Sheard, Kierra Sheard, Jahi, Nas, Public Enemy, Questlove, Rapsody, Roddy Ricch, SiR, Summer Walker, YG, Masego, and Lonr round out the list.

Special appearances are also planned by Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Billy Porter, Lizzo, Lena Waithe, Michael B Jordan, Misty Copeland, Naomi Campbell, Quincy Jones, Regina Hall, Samuel L Jackson, Viola Davis, Whoopi Goldberg, La La Anthony, Courtney B Vance, Debbie Allen, Deon Cole, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Sterling K Brown, Omari Hardwick, Quavo, Rapsody, and Saweetie.

Who is being honoured?

Beyoncé is set to receive the BET Humanitarian Award.

Tributes to Kobe Bryant and Little Richard are also planned.

Nicolas Johnson, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and D-Nice will be honoured, as well French anti-racist activist Assa Traoré.

Who are the nominees?

Drake is leading this year with six nominations. He's followed by Megan Thee Stallion and Roddy Ricch, who scored five nominations each.
