From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Barack Obama has announced his annual summer playlist for 2020, with Megan thee Stallion, Billie Eilish and The Chicks’ “Gaslighter” all making appearances.

“Over the past few months, I’ve spent a lot of time listening to music with my family,” Obama wrote on his social media. “I wanted to share some of my favourites from the summer.

“As always, it’s a mix of genres that travels through various eras. I think there’s something in here for everybody – hope you enjoy it.”

Among the tracks included on Obama’s playlist include Beyoncé and Megan thee Stallion’s “Savage Remix”, Eilish’s “My Future”, “For What It’s Worth” by Pose star Billy Porter, and “Gemini” by rapper Princess Nokia.

Dua Lipa also makes an appearance, via “Un Dia (One Day)”, her collaboration with J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Tainy, as do tracks by Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean and HAIM.

Classic songs that appear on the playlist include “My Baby Just Cares for Me” by Nina Simone, “Do I Do” by Stevie Wonder and “Goodbye Jimmy Read” by Bob Dylan.

Rapper Chika, whose track “Crown” makes an appearance on the playlist, tweeted her excitement over its inclusion.

“Excuse my language but BITCCHHHH,” she wrote. She also jokingly urged her followers to not alert Obama to her track “Balencies”, which directly references the former US president.

Obama has published summer playlists every year since 2015.
