From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

2016 has arguably been the year of Mr. Krab as far as popular memes go, but now, the four-eyed aardvark Arthur has taken the crown from the money hungry crustacean.

Arthur is the lead character of the PBS kids show of the same name, which first aired in 1996. He’s been wildly popular on Twitter and has been used as a reaction meme, as shown with accounts like @ShadyArthur.

But on Thursday, someway, somehow, the beloved aardvark's fist has been championed by black Twitter and parody accounts online alike, covering topics from cheating exes, police corruption, and even juxtaposed against the lyrics of late rap legends.

Arthur's viral moment seemingly began with the first episode of the fourth season titled "Arthur's Big Hit," in which he actually punches his younger sister D.W. for breaking his model airplane.

The trend started with fists but has now grown into a full-blown obsession with the chill aardvark and his crew. Here are some of the best posts I found on Twitter this afternoon. Enjoy.
