Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

American Football have announced their first ever UK tour.

The indie rock band, whose hits include “Never Meant” and “I’ll See You When We’re Both Not So Emotional”, will hop across the pond to perform on three dates in May 2015.

On 14 May they will play at London’s Electric Ballroom, followed by the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on 15 May and Manchester’s Gorilla on 16 May.

American Football, from Champaign-Urbana in Illinois, reunited this year after a 14-year hiatus. The band was originally formed in 1997 by Mike Kinsella, Steve Lamos and Steve Holmes.

In March Polyvinyl Records announced a deluxe edition of their album American Football, which was first released in 1999. The album includes 10 additional unheard demos and live recordings.

The band’s tour kicks off on 11 December at the Fillmore in San Francisco and will take them to Los Angeles and Chicago before they arrive in the UK.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Monday 24 November and can be bought from the band’s official website.
