From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Adele appears to have released a 30-second teaser of new material from her upcoming third album in a TV advert.

The advert appeared during the X Factor on Sunday night, and consisted of a black screen with white lyrics accompanying Adele's voice.

The lyrics went: "Hello/It's me/I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet"

"To go over everything/they say that time's supposed to heal you/But I ain't done much healing."

Adele's last album, 21, was released in January 2011 and sold 5 million copies in the UK and 30 million worldwide.

Her next album, with the working title of 25, has been awaited ever since, and is set to be released in November.

The 30-second advert provoked a huge reaction online, with 'Adele' climbing to the top of the UK's trending topics on Twitter almost straight away.
