From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

New music began emerging on social media last night, after allegedly being posted on Twitter by an account named ‘25 is coming’. The link has since been removed, but some news sites including ITV News were able to access the album through it.
It was also reported that London-based record shop Juno Records posted two-minute snippets of all 11 songs on their sales website, before removing them less than 20 minutes later. The store is yet to comment.
The Independent did not hear the tracks, but Cosmopolitan writer Eliza Thompson did and warned fans to “stock up on copious wine because you’re going to need it”. “‘Hello’ isn’t the only song on 25 that will have you crying in public,” she said.
Elsewhere, Adele’s representatives denied that Target stores in the US have been selling 25 before it officially drops on Friday 20 November. “The Target sales are not true,” a spokesperson told The Mirror.
Rumours began swirling after someone pretending to be Florence + the Machine frontwoman Florence Welch tweeted a picture of what looked like the new CD, wrapped in cellophane with a previously shared black and white portrait of Adele on the cover.
The artwork matched those on the albums seen being madein a GIF posted by Adele last week.
“Just copped that new Adele album at Target. Retweet if you want me to leak it,” the fan wrote, before later claiming that “Adele’s representatives have been threatening to bomb [her] house if the album flops”.
Adele’s album release will coincide with a BBC music special hosted by Graham Norton, during which she will talk about her career and perform some new music.
So far, only “Hello” has been released as a single, with the Oscar-winning singer also sharing a live performance of new song “When We Were Young” earlier this week.
Adele’s last album 21 shifted a massive 30 million copies worldwide.
Her representative had no comment to make on the reported leak.
