Brooklyn indie pop/rock band The National is the most blogged musical act on The Hype Machine on May 14, followed by Sri Lankan-born rapper M.I.A. and Brooklyn noise pop band Sleigh Bells. New to the top ten are English electronic duo The Chemical Brothers and Vermont all-female band Mountain Man.
The Chemical Brothers - musicians Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons - are due to release their seventh studio album, Further, in 2010. Bloggers are sharing the album's first single, "Swoon," which Totally Twitterpated (totallytwitterpated.wordpress.com) calls "the feel good track of the summer." Also being shared is a remix of the track by Dutch DJ and producer Don Diablo.
Three-piece band Mountain Man released a download-only debut album in 2009 and has a second album, Made the Harbor, due out in June. The trio is now offering a first track from that album, "Sublime." Kick Kick Snare (kickkicksnare.com ) describes Mountain Man's sound: "Sounding both as old as the hills and utterly original, Mountain Man's haunting, harmony-laden music combines elements of folk, country and traditional American music while setting up camp alongside the likes of Fleet Foxes and Joanna Newsom."
