Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Brooklyn indie band The National is the most blogged act of the moment on April 15, according to The Hype Machine. The group is getting buzz as bloggers share "Afraid of Everyone," another track from upcoming album High Violet. Dance-punk act LCD Soundsystem and indie band Deer Tick are in second and third place.

LCD Soundsystem, headed by New York producer James Murphy, is due to release its third album This is Happening in mid-May. As of April 14, the band is offering the album to stream for free on its website, and reviews of the new offering are just beginning to emerge in the blogosphere.

Dream-pop duo Beach House is back in a top spot on The Hype Machine for the first time since February, when the band members - Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand - announced plans to release a limited edition four-song 12", called Zebra EP, in support of Record Store Day on April 17. In anticipation of the release, the duo is offering "Zebra" as a free download and the new song "The Arrangement" for free streaming.
