Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Grammy Award-winning US singer Solomon Burke has been a hot topic in the blogs since his death on Sunday, October 10, in Amsterdam at the age of 70. Burke, crowned "the King of Rock and Soul" during a career spanning five decades, found new audiences through the soundtracks for movies such as The Blues Brothers and Dirty Dancing. Bloggers have been trading obscure Solomon tracks and factual details about his life and career all week. "Burke's career was frequented by forays into country music including versions of CCR's 'Proud Mary,' Bob Dylan's 'The Mighty Quinn' and an entire album of his own entitled Nashville in 2006," writes When You Awake (whenyouawake.com).
British electronic composer James Blake joins the most-blogged top ten after releasing his cover of the 2007 Feist ballad "Limit to Your Love." The new track is the first single from his still-untitled debut album, reportedly due early in 2011. "It sounds like the kind of dream you wake up from feeling guilty about something you can never remember," writes blogger Pretty Much Amazing (prettymuchamazing.com) of the new song. "Based on this track, I'm expecting a glowing reception for the rest of Blake's upcoming album."
